  • In my artwork I want to connect the viewer with the beauty of the Earth. Pausing to notice the unfurling of a fern in the Spring, how a lichen grows on the face of a boulder, the way a stone fractures along a seam, the marks the receding tide leaves on a sandy beach, grounds us. My purpose in making art is to help us to really see where we live, recognize the way we shape it, and encourage its preservation.

My work is based in exploration of dye on cloth. I use many processes and techniques to make unique marks on fabric including wax and other resists, folding and clamping, printing with leaves and found objects, and altering the dye’s attachment using ice and gravity. Even though I have over 20 years experience in dyeing cottons, silks, rayons, and linens, there is always still the pure alchemical thrill of washing out the fabrics to see what the dye has writ. Capturing and combining these marks in sculpture, wall pieces, and installation continues to bring me into the studio.

    1. Cameron’s work will be featured in the May/June 2023 issue of Luxe Magazine.

    2. In addition to her sculptural practice, Cameron recently launched an Etsy shop featuring hand-dyed accessories called Whirlwind Hand-Dyes!
